96% Voted Yes: Strike Authorization Vote Results

The results are in. Faculty and professional staff at City Colleges of Chicago voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.


The numbers

  • 1,324 out of 1,446 eligible members voted, a 91.6% turnout.

  • 96% voted YES to authorize a strike.

Thank you to everyone who voted, and to the negotiating teams, the Contract Action Team, and our CCCTU staff who helped drive that turnout. A result like this doesn't happen by accident. It happens because members showed up.


What this means

This vote gives our negotiating teams real leverage at the table. But the vote itself doesn't win us a fair contract. It's a springboard, not a finish line. We have to keep building power in this campaign, and that takes all of us, not just the members at City Colleges.


If you're at City Colleges of Chicago

  • Come out to the CCC Board Action on Thursday, October 1 at 1pm at Harold Washington College.

  • Attend strike captain and communications training on Saturday, October 3, 9am to 1pm, at our union office (1901 W. Carroll Ave., Suite 200).

  • Join the Zoom Strike Preparation meeting on Wednesday, October 7 at 7pm (link coming soon).

  • Sign up for the Contract Action Team or the Research Team if you haven't already.

  • Start setting aside about three weeks' worth of pay. Strikes are typically much shorter than that, but it's smart to be prepared. Zero-interest strike loans are available through the College and University Credit Union (CUCU).


If you're at one of our other colleges

This vote was specific to City Colleges, but this fight matters for every one of our 14 colleges. When one chapter wins, it makes the next fight easier for all of us. Here's how you can stand with your fellow 1600 members:

  • Wear red every Wednesday for solidarity days.

  • Update your Zoom background to show support during negotiations.

  • Share updates about the campaign with your coworkers and on your own social media.

  • All members, regardless of college, are eligible to join CUCU. It's worth looking into even outside of strike prep.
