On April 23, President Tony Johnston and Legislative Chair Troy Swanson hosted a policy brief over Zoom for elected officials to discuss SB 1693, the bill for an elected board of trustees for the City Colleges of Chicago. The bill is currently stuck in the Illinois Senate, waiting to be assigned to a committee by Senate leadership.
During the policy brief, Tony and Troy urged the lawmakers and legislative staff present to ask Senate leadership to assign SB 1693 to a committee so it can be heard this legislative session. Senator Robert Martwick, sponsor of the legislation, also provided an update on where things stand with the legislation and the need for more people to speak up and urge the legislation to be moved forward.
Union members can help by calling their Illinois Senator or clicking here to write a letter. The letter is pre-written so all you have to do is add your name and send.
Watch the policy brief below and act today to help move SB 1693 closer to becoming a law. It's time for an elected board for the City Colleges of Chicago.
