We are Strike Ready:
For Our Students, For Our Colleges

Bargaining continues with a federal mediator. We are scheduled to negotiate frequently leading up to the 19th, including Monday, October 12 (Indigenous Peoples' Day), and the entire weekend before the strike. We will keep showing up at the table until the deadline.

The two sides are still far apart. City Colleges is offering salary increases that are well below inflation. That is a pay cut. We're also fighting for smaller class sizes, artificial intelligence contract language, free developmental education courses for students, more control over remote work for professionals, stronger benefits for part-time professionals, and more.

The AI and remote work proposals matter to our entire union. Our CCC faculty and professional bargaining teams are fighting for contract language that gives us notice, a voice, and protection when AI is used in our colleges. We are not trying to block new technology. We want people, not algorithms, to make the decisions that affect our students and our jobs. City Colleges has rejected our proposal, saying they will only follow the law. Under remote work, we are fighting for real control, with a clear and consistent policy written into the contract. Many of our suburban colleges are facing the same questions on AI and remote work. What we win at City Colleges can become a model for our other colleges and for the contracts still to come. The CCC fight is everyone's fight.

Strike rally: Saturday, October 17, 2:00 PM

Join us for a strike rally two days before the strike date.

All members of our union are welcome. If you work at one of our suburban colleges, we would love to see you there. A big crowd shows City Colleges that Local 1600 is united. If we reach an agreement before our rally, it will instead be a party to celebrate our tentative contract agreement.

What you can do now

  • If you work at City Colleges: Make sure Local 1600 has your personal email and cell phone number. That is how we will reach you about the strike. Attend the rally, and ask your chapter chair if you have questions about strike duty or health insurance.

  • If you work at another college: Come to the rally, wear red every Wednesday, and share our updates with your coworkers and on social media. What we win on AI and remote work may set the standard for your contract too.

  • All members: Wear red on Wednesday, October 14.
