On Labor Day, members of our union proudly joined working people from across Chicago at the historic Haymarket Memorial to rally for justice, dignity, and respect for all workers.
The Haymarket site is sacred ground in the labor movement—where in 1886, workers demanding an eight-hour workday faced repression and violence, but also sparked a worldwide struggle for workers’ rights that continues to this day. Standing together at this memorial reminds us that our fights for fair wages, safe workplaces, and strong contracts are part of a long and ongoing movement for justice.
Union members carried banners, chanted alongside allies, and reaffirmed our commitment to solidarity over division, and workers over billionaires. The rally highlighted the urgent issues facing working families in Chicago and beyond: affordable health care, stronger protections on the job, fully funded public education, and a future where all workers can thrive.
By gathering at the Haymarket Memorial, we honored the sacrifices of those who came before us while also recommitting ourselves to the struggles of today. Labor Day is not just a holiday—it is a call to action.
We are grateful to all of our members who marched, spoke out, and showed up to demonstrate the power of collective action. Together, we will continue to fight for a Chicago, and a country, where every worker is treated with dignity.
Solidarity forever, and Happy Labor Day!
