Local 1600 Election Notice

The Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600, will hold an election in March for our eight local-wide officers and 35 delegates and alternate delegates to the AFT and IFT Conventions. Most chapters will also hold elections. NOMINATIONS: Nominations for local officers and convention delegates will be accepted during the January 16th House of Representatives meeting to be held over Zoom starting at 4pm. Names will be accepted as individuals or as part of a slate. Any member in good standing is eligible to run for delegate or alternate delegate to the AFT and IFT conventions. The nominations process for local-wide officers is outlined in our constitution in Article VI, Section 1:
ELECTION DATES: The election will be an electronic election facilitated by the voting company Votem. Voting credentials will be both emailed and mailed out no later than February 19, 2026. Ballots must be cast on Votem’s secure voting website by 11:59 PM on March 19, 2026. Ballots will be tabulated by the voting software and results announced on March 20, 2026. All full members are eligible to vote. If you do not receive your voting credentials by March 1st, please call the Union office at 312-755-9400. The elected officers will begin their term on June 15, 2026. CHAPTER ELECTIONS: Most of CCCTU’s local chapters will conduct elections in March. According to a motion passed by our Executive Board, chapters must hold elections by March 19, 2026 over a minimum of two days. Chapters must also openly announce elections and call for nominations by February 19, 2026. For more information on chapter elections, please contact your chapter leader. |
